Online Psychotherapy

Although the pandemic has moved many services online, psychotherapy has been offered online for more than 20 years and is proven to be just as effective as in-person therapy! With that said, online counselling may not be for everyone. Online services are not recommended for young children or individuals who may experience crisis or emergency situations where immediate and in-person supports would be best. Also, individuals should have a basic understanding of how to log into a website platform and troubleshoot common issues with their camera and sound.

Resilient Cactus Psychotherapy provides 60-minute and 90-minute online sessions through a secure video platform so you can experience therapy in a comfortable, private setting of your choosing, such as your home, office, or even car! You just need a solid internet connection and a device with a camera, such as a cell phone, laptop, or tablet!

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT is an excellent intervention which reduces mental health symptoms by focusing on the thinking and behaviours that maintain our problems. By addressing the way we think and behave, we can develop new coping strategies, regulate our emotions, and find new healthy and effective solutions to our problems.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT is an effective intervention that helps us cope with intense emotions and situations and gives us strategies and skills to slow down and be present in the moment, communicate more effectively, and identify and replace destructive ways of thinking and behaving.

Emotionally-Focused Therapy (EFT)

EFT is a powerful intervention that allows us to identify, explore, and improve the negative communication cycles we may engage in with our loved ones. Through EFT, we can explore unresolved trauma, and learn to experience and express intense emotions from past hurts that continue to impact us today, and improve relationships with loved ones.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

MI is an effective approach to help us get ‘unstuck’ when we are unsure about decisions we want to make, behaviours we may need to change, and goals we may want to work towards.

Psychoeducation (PE)

PE involves providing information about your diagnosis, medication, strategies, and experiences so you may have a better understanding of why you may be feeling, thinking, and behaving a certain way, and why certain strategies may be effective in helping you to feel better.

Reality Therapy (RT)

RT is an excellent intervention that focuses on how we can improve our quality of life and effectively meet our own basic needs, interact within our important relationships, and work towards our personal goals to feel as good as possible as often as possible, by considering and exploring our wants, needs, and choices.

Let's work together

My approach involves supporting you to develop an understanding of your experience, relationships, and emotions - this sometimes involves sharing the science behind what you are experiencing. Once we understand what you are going through, we can process the emotions and strengthen coping strategies, which allows life to feel more manageable.

To do this, I use an integrated and collaborative approach, which means we may use aspects of more than one therapeutic model to target your specific concerns, needs, and goals, and I will provide an overview of strategies we can use as we go, so you can determine if they are a fit for you. Your voice is important in this process!
